In his statement to Ednew, Israeli expert, public and political figure Baruch Leviev said this while commenting on the torture of an Azerbaijani soldier found in Armenia:
“Any war, any confrontation, any special and military operation, no matter what it is called, is such an extremely complex, unpredictable process that always results in much human suffering, destruction, and loss for both sides, all without exception. Many people find themselves in such distress, losing loved ones.”
“As for the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan itself, as a native of the Caucasus, as a person who is engaged in the promotion of friendship between the peoples of Israel and Azerbaijan, I would really hate to see all those are happening today between Armenia and Azerbaijan, I would like to see the entire region prosper and people live in peace and harmony. But then, as they say, it's the Almighty's will. What happened is what happened and we, as ordinary people, should always do our best to minimize this whole tragedy”, he added.
According to him, as for Armenia itself, it really doesn't benefit them:
“Here, I do agree with many experts who condemned the incident. Again, this will not lead to any progress or changes. It will not bring any good, but on the contrary, it will aggravate more and more the whole situation that is now happening in the region between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
“In connection with what happens during military conflicts, during the war, military actions has been developed such a convention, where any detention of prisoners of war, torture them is a violation of international law and carries with it serious humanitarian consequences”, he mentioned.
“As for Israel itself, I would like to say that I really don't know what our officials are saying about all this, because we ourselves have problems now. We have a pre-war situation, a pre-war situation, and everything is very tense. And you and I have something in common here. One thing I can tell you is that I know the Israeli Foreign Minister personally and I'm sure if he were near me right now, I'd ask him that question. He would, of course, also condemn such a thing, as between us and Azerbaijan there are really very friendly relations”, he stressed in the end.
