Sweden's membership in NATO, like Finland, is one of the main agenda issues. The West has been waiting for this day for a long time. However, Turkey and Hungary are in no hurry to ratify Sweden's membership in NATO, they are in a waiting position.
But when does Turkey intend to approve this ratification?
Turkish journalist Güngör Yavuzaslan stated in his statement to EDnews that Turkey has not changed its position against Sweden:
"NATO Secretary General was expected to attend Erdogan's swearing-in ceremony. A meeting between Erdogan and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg took place. Everyone was waiting for President Erdoğan's swearing-in ceremony and his new duties and the formation of a new cabinet. All this has already happened."
G. Yavuzaslan said that Finland fulfilled its obligations in the tripartite agreement, and the same step is expected from Sweden:
"Even if Sweden adopts certain legal regulations, it still has not reached the point that Turkey wants. Until these things are realized, Turkey will not support Sweden's membership in NATO."
Addressing the issue of Azerbaijan's NATO membership, the journalist emphasized that the issue of Azerbaijan's NATO membership is not on the agenda, but security issues between Turkey and Azerbaijan within the framework of the Shusha Agreement continue:
"It is still too early to talk about Azerbaijan's membership in NATO. Because Russia's position in the Caucasus is more important for Azerbaijan. The security policy will be formed by the manifestations of the organization of Turkic states in the Caucasus. The basis of this is the Shusha Agreement between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which was concluded entirely on security issues. The Turkish army and the Azerbaijani army will act together."
The journalist said that an attack on the territory of Azerbaijan will be considered as an attack on the territory of Turkey:
"Also, any attack on the territory of Turkey will be considered as an attack on the territory of Azerbaijan, and the response will be given by the joint action of the armies of both countries. It includes both Karabakh and Nakhchivan territories. The issue is mostly due to these reasons. Therefore, if Sweden does not fulfill the required conditions, its membership in NATO will not be accepted by Turkey."
