Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul-Rahman Al Thani stressed the importance for the establishment of political stability in blast-stricken Lebanon.
“There is a need for political stability in Lebanon," Al Thani said following his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun in Beirut, Anadolu Agency reports.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister Al-Thani expressed his country’s support to Lebanon following a massive blast that rocked the Beirut Port on August 4.
"Qatar was one of the first countries that sent aid to Lebanon,” he said.
Al-Thani also noted that reforms in Lebanon should be carried out under the will of Lebanese people, not under the foreign pressure.
The top Qatari diplomat is expected to meet with a host of Lebanese officials during his visit, including caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab, former Premier Saad Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
It should be noted that the port explosion has caused the intensification of the economic crisis amid the political stability which has emboldened mass protests covering the country.
