Former member of the Haitian Senate and ally of the murdered President Jovenel Moïse, Jean-Charles Moïse, called on citizens of the country to take to streets for mass protests in early February to oust the government of Ariel Henry.
Ednews informs via the local news portal Haiti libre that the politician called on the population to block the buildings of government institutions, and law enforcement officers not to interfere with the protesters. He did this after several thousand people protested against Henri's policies in different cities of Haiti last week. Then the former rebel leader Guy Philippe, who took part in the overthrow of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, called for demonstrations.
The security and humanitarian situation has deteriorated in Haiti since the July 2021 killing of Jovenel Moïse and the earthquake that occurred in August of the same year, killing more than 2,200 people. According to Telesur TV channel, gangs control more than 80% of the territory in Port-au-Prince and are consolidating in other regions of the country.
