The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced the launch of a program to accelerate Albania’s accession to the EU.
In particular, it is planned to increase the competitiveness of the country’s economy and promote reforms, reads the program description, Ednews informs.
The total amount of funding under the USAID program will be $12 million.
The agency plans to bring Albanian legislation into line with EU standards through cooperation with the country’s government and the private sector and the creation of value chain support.
This activity will allow Albania to demonstrate progress towards achieving the Copenhagen Economic Criteria for EU accession, according to which states must ensure the functioning of a market economy, as well as be able to cope with competitive pressures within the EU, the document says.
