The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction has ruled to arrest Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the opposition Sacred Struggle movement, for two months, the cleric's lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan told journalists, EDnews reports.
According to the lawyer, the decision will be appealed to the Court of Appeal.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has accused the participants and leaders of the Sacred Struggle movement of carrying out terrorist acts and activities aimed at seizing power in the country.
Searches were conducted in the homes of the archbishop and his supporters.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shared on his Telegram channel an article published on the pro-government portal Civic.am, which contained information about the planned seizure of power.
