In her recent statement to Ednews, Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Konul Nurullayeva strongly criticized the recent resolution adopted by the European Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee against Azerbaijan. According to Nurullayeva, the resolution holds little importance as it reflects the biased stance of parliamentarians allegedly influenced by funding from the Armenian lobby, rather than representing the official position of the European Union.
Nurullayeva asserted that the financial backing for these parliamentarians comes from Kaspar Karapetyan, an Armenian diamond smuggler residing in Brussels. She claimed that certain European parliamentarians prioritize their commercial interests over the broader interests of the European Union, emphasizing that President Ilham Aliyev had previously exposed such activities during a meeting with Germany's business representatives.
Accusing figures like Macron and Borrel of Islamophobia, racism, and Turkophobia, Nurullayeva argued that these individuals are behind what she described as "disgusting games" against Azerbaijan. She echoed President Aliyev's assertion that double standards have become commonplace in various international institutions, including the European Union.
Nurullayeva pointed out the perceived imbalance in how European institutions treat South Caucasus countries, highlighting the demonization of Azerbaijan while ignoring Armenia's 30-year-long occupation policy. She claimed that anti-terrorist measures taken by Azerbaijan in its sovereign territories are deliberately condemned, despite not targeting civilian populations.
Expressing serious concerns about the future of the European Union's common foreign and security policy, Nurullayeva firmly rejected what she viewed as disrespect by the European Parliament towards Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. She warned that as long as the European Union fails to address these alleged biases, its foreign and security policy will be confined by utopian approaches in the international relations system.
Concluding the statement, Nurullayeva emphasized that Azerbaijan is not obligated to comply with the European Parliament's dictates, asserting that no external pressure or attempts at coercion will deter the country from maintaining its principled position.
