It was proposed to adopt the "alternative military service" law in Azerbaijan. If the conviction of citizens is against the actual military service, it is allowed to replace the actual military service with an alternative service in the cases established by law.
Based on what principles will this new service form operate?
In his statement to Ednews about the issue, military expert Heydar Mirza said that this system is implemented in many countries of the world.
"First of all, I should mention that the alternative service is a world practice and is used in different forms in different countries. Although this is an advanced practice, more detailed work should be done with the participation of several government agencies in order for the alternative service system to take the form of a project in a complete and functional way. In fact, this system will affect not only the army, but also economic and social mechanisms, requiring their joint action.
This program may be implemented in small-scale stages. I think that sooner or later we will also adapt this system in one way or another. Of course, this issue will take time, and it is necessary to take into consideration whether the state institutions and public institutions are ready or not."
The expert stated that it is convenient to switch to this system because of the youth’s high interest in army construction.
"It is obvious from the systematic messages delivered by Mr. President during his inauguration that although the territorial integrity of our country has been fully restored, the geopolitical situation and security condition in the region is not stable at all. There are various threats facing the country and both the army and society must be prepared for these threats at all times.
Don't forget that the army and power structures are highly prestigious at the moment. Contrary to power structures, young people yearn for the army. In such a case, the relevance of the issue of alternative was necessary to raise questions."
