Was the presence of peacekeepers a threat to Azerbaijan? - OPINION

Politics 16:48 18.04.2024

As we reported earlier, Russian peacekeeping forces left the area of Khudaveng Monastery, an Albanian temple located in Kalbajar district. With this, a new stage of the contingent's departure from the territory of Azerbaijan began.

Can the Russians leave Karabakh be considered the next success of Azerbaijan? Russian peacekeepers are leaving the territory of Azerbaijan. What is the Kremlin's decision about? Is this decision of the Kremlin also related to the purpose of putting the revanchists on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan or increasing the internal tension?

Politologue Alimusa Ibrahimov told Ednews that the departure of Russian peacekeepers from Karabakh, no matter how much it was expected, it was not predicted at this level by political circles, that is, the number of those who hoped that the peacekeepers would leave Azerbaijan sooner or later was more:

"It was thought that after the Armenians left Karabakh, there was no need for the Russians to stay here. But the Russian side did not give any hint that it would leave the region. That is why this step of Russia was met with surprise. But I think that the Azerbaijani side knows about it. and was not even in a hurry to respond to those who considered the presence of peacekeepers a threat to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's response was finally given by the withdrawal of the peacekeeping contingent."

The political scientist noted that the enemies of Azerbaijan, literally shocked by the withdrawal of the peacekeepers, are trying to find a hidden meaning in this step, announcing that a new agreement will be signed between Russia and Azerbaijan:

"There are even those who predict that a Russian base will be created in Azerbaijan in the near future. But all these are nothing more than empty rumors. Seeing that the mission of the peacekeepers was completed, Russia removed them from the region before the end of their term of office. Thus, unlike the West and America, peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia From now on, whatever narrative the Armenians and the forces behind them invent about the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. The withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from Azerbaijan is in our interest and we will continue to act in our interests."

It should be recalled that the Russian peacekeeping contingent was temporarily deployed in Karabakh after the tripartite declaration signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia on November 10, 2020.
