For the first time in Azerbaijan, a national textbook on piano is being prepared. It was also noted that most of the textbooks currently used in music schools are based on materials written in the middle of the last century.
"EDnews" reports that the textbook, which will be prepared for primary school students - grades I, II and III - on the initiative and order of the Ministry of Culture, will be the first textbook published during the period of independence.
Although the "Primary Textbook for Playing the Piano" by L.Yegorova and R. Sirovich, prepared in 1955, as well as the materials of Sevda Ibrahimova, Gulnara Safaraliyeva and other authors, are still used as reference sources today, they do not fully cover the modern educational approach, national intonation and new pedagogical principles.
The new textbook is the beginning of a new stage for music education as an integral part of the modern curriculum. In the project, composers and poets, musicologists, and renowned pianist-teachers are coming together to create a textbook that will ensure that children take their first steps with a repertoire enriched with national musical intonations.
The main goal of the textbook is to support both their professional and national-spiritual development by presenting students with classical music samples and new compositions based on Azerbaijani musical culture at the initial stage of piano education. The first section of the textbook is planned to be presented in September 2025 as part of the pilot project.
