The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has welcomed the US-Iran peace agreement, describing it as a “potential breakthrough” that could open the door to broader diplomatic efforts.
According to EDnews. Kallas said the agreement “can give much-needed space for deeper negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme and other critical issues”.
“Once implemented, the deal should also ease the global energy crisis,” she added, noting that the EU “stands ready to contribute to a sustainable resolution”.
Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the agreement, stressing that its “swift and full implementation by all parties” must now be the priority.
Von der Leyen said freedom of navigation should be fully restored in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “essential for regional stability and the global economy”.
She added that the deal should help bring an end to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, as well as what she described as Tehran’s destabilising activities in the region. The Commission chief also reiterated the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
