Google has unveiled plans to invest 1 billion euros in the expansion of its data center located in the Finnish city of Hamina. As reported by Ednews, citing bloomberg, the investment aims to further develop the data center campus, fostering employment, innovation, and economic growth in the region.
Since its establishment in 2009, Google has already invested 3.5 billion euros in the Hamina data center and associated infrastructure. The expansion will elevate the company's total investment in Finland to over 4.5 billion euros, underscoring its commitment to the local economy.
A notable aspect of the expansion includes a new partnership with Haminan Energia to utilize excess heat from the data center for regional heating purposes. According to the statement, approximately 80 percent of Hamina's central heating needs will be met through this initiative, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainability.
