The German returned to training this week after a knee problem and was expected to be at least on the bench

Mesut Ozil was left out of the Arsenal squad for their clash with West Ham .

The German has missed the last three matches with a knee problem but was due to return at the London Stadium.

But Ozil was nowhere to be seen as Arsenal announced their starting line-up as he failed to even make the bench.

It is suggested he was fit to feature but was left out by boss Emery for tactical reasons.

There was better news on the injury front regarding Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal though after both returning to training.

The pair have been struggling with injuries but were both on the bench at the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, Samir Nasri has been handed a surprising start against his former club.

Nasri has joined the Hammers as a free agent after returning from a ban at the start of 2019.

West Ham: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Diop, Cresswell, Rice, Noble, Nasri, Antonio, Anderson, Arnautovic

Arsenal: Leno, Mustafi, Koscielny, Sokratis; Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Kolasinac; Iwobi, Aubameyang, Lacazette.
