Long-term Manchester United target Ivan Perisic has been put up for sale by Inter Milan but it remains to be seen whether a move to Old Trafford is still on the cards following Jose Mourinho's departure.
Perisic was on the brink of joining the Red Devils during the summer of 2017 but opted to remain at Inter, despite the best efforts of Mourinho to lure him to the Premier League.
Now though, Inter are willing to let the Croatian depart for around £35million following a disappointing season so far.
Reports in Gazzetta dello Sport claim Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is willing to cash in on Perisic with former Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco already identified as his replacement.
Perisic, who scored for Croatia in the World Cup semi-final and final last summer, was persuaded to stay by Spalletti in 2017 after serious interest from United.
He said in November: 'It's true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table – I was really close to leaving Inter.
'When Luciano Spalletti arrived [in June 2017], he showed tremendous desire to keep me in the team and made it clear he didn't want to lose me.
'That was very encouraging, and I haven't regretted my decision to stay at Inter. In football, small details in these situations are key.
'Admiration from a coach like Mourinho is definitely something that flattered me. It's confirmation of hard work and good performances.
'When you're praised by a guy like Mourinho – the manager of a huge club like Man United – it's difficult not to think about such an offer. I'm glad he has a high opinion of me. These things motivate me to work and train hard, to achieve the best performances.'
Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival as caretaker boss, United have won all eight games under his management and shown a new-found confidence in attack.
With Alexis Sanchez back among the goals in Friday night's win at Arsenal, as well as the impressive form of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford it seems the club are now well stocked in attacking areas.
Perisic, who is 29 and approaching the twilight years of his career, did recently refuse to rule out a future transfer to the Premier League though.
'In football, you never say never,' he said. 'From the beginning of my career, I've had the ambition to play in as many big leagues as possible, and I still have that desire to test myself in other leagues. And I mean in the Spanish or English leagues.
'I hope Inter fans understand my point of view. I'm an athlete and a professional, I like challenges and this is my driving force. What the future will bring, I don't know. Now I'm focused on Inter, as we try to make a bigger step forward from last season.'
