The Egyptian had to sit on the sidelines after sustaining a concussion in Liverpool’s Premier League win at Newcastle at the weekend.
That left Jurgen Klopp’s men with it all to do, given they were missing top goalscorer Salah and fellow key forward Roberto Firmino while trailing 3-0 from the first leg.
But a number of Liverpool stars including Dejan Lovren insisted that a comeback was still possible, while Salah himself turned up to Anfield wearing a t-shirt that simply said: ‘Never give up.’
And even in the absence of several key performers - with Naby Keita also out injured - Liverpool produced arguably their most famous European night yet by beating Barcelona 4-0.
Salah tweeted a picture of himself pre-match wearing his inspirational t-shirt with the words: ‘Caption included.’
Speaking earlier this season given Liverpool’s ambitions of going for glory in Europe and in the league, Salah revealed he is desperate for continental success.
But he did acknowledge that Liverpool fans are hungry to end their 29-year wait for the title.
"I will be honest with you, the most prestigious competition for me is the Champions League," he told Sky Sports.
"But the dream for the entire city and the club is the league.
"So, I am happy to sacrifice my dream for their dream but if we win both that would great and this is what we are trying to do."
