Ethiopian-born Dutch middle and long-distance runner Sifan Hassan clinched her third medal of the Paris Olympic Games 2024 with a stunning sprint finish to win the women's marathon in 2:22:55 on Sunday. Not only has Hassan won gold, but she has also broken the Olympic record with this time.
The dramatic race saw Hassan outpace her rivals in the final meters, overcoming Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa, who secured silver just three seconds behind with a time of 2:22:58. Kenya's Hellen Obiri claimed bronze at 2:23:10, while fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in 2:23:14.
This victory adds to Hassan's already impressive performance at the Olympics, with two bronzes in the women's 5000-meters and 10,000-meters categories.
