Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to Azerbaijan Salma Abdelhaq spoke about the steps taken by the Algerian government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus in her interview to Azerbaijan State Television. She said the virus was reported in late February and spread through Europe, the second epicenter of the pandemic after China.
The ambassador noted that the Algerian government has monitored the situation and taken measures to control it and reduce the spread of the virus. The first step was that a national commission was set up to coordinate response to COVID-19. Like the other countries, Algeria has accepted the recommendations of the World Health Organization on quarantine, curfew, school and university closures, airport closures and flight delays.
The ambassador also noted that the peak of the pandemic was recorded on April 29 with 199 cases of the virus per day. However, since June 3, the number of cases has decreased. Therefore, on Sunday, June 7, Algeria decided to ease the restrictive regime, but still maintained curfew.
