German Foreign Minister says, European security should be common goal
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is cautious over possible "confrontation relapse" between NATO and Russia. Ahead of the Warsaw summit, the Minister says the common steps should be taken towards improving European security.
"We have no rights to allow for relapse of the old-new confrontation. Deterrence and dialogue are two sides of the same coin", Steinmeier said in an interview with German media group Funke, Deutsche Welle reported.
The Minister warned the Alliance not to take steps that could be misinterpreted.
"This could result in the worse security situation in Europe", he said.
The recent calls for "warmer policy" towards Russia have triggered certain criticism of Steinmeier among his colleagues and allies in Germany as well as Ukrainian officials.
