Recep Akbiyik, aged 29, now faces seven charges including making a terroristic threat, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon. Akbiyik was first named as a primary suspect on Wednesday after video footage from the building, which is located across from the United Nations headquarters, was examined.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously urged the United States authorities to act, branding the incident as terrorism. The event has generated tension between Washington and Ankara as Turkey prepares for the election runoff on May 28.
