Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said that the country's President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva may meet his Russian counterpart during the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa.
"I think the first opportunity for a meeting could be at the BRICS summit in South Africa, but since the election of President Lula they have already communicated twice, in addition to that President Putin received the special envoy Celso Amorim in Moscow to discuss the conflict with Ukraine and the prospects for peace," Vieira stated.
The BRICs summit is set to take place in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. Earlier, the International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, urged South Africa to "do the right thing" and arrest Putin in case he attends the event in person.
