Major European markets opened higher on Thursday. During the day, investors will be watching the latest updates on the BRICS summit, reports on the possible death of Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, as well as more economic data.
Before the opening, gas prices plummeted by 19% as market participants seemingly interpreted that the talks between union groups and Australia's Woodside Energy were moving forward.
At 9:00 am CET, the French benchmark CAC 40 added 0.95%, while STMicroelectronics improved by 2.72%. The FTSE 100 rose by 0.76%, as Samsung Electronics increased by 2.47%.
One minute later, the pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 improved by 1.15%, and ASML Holding was leading the gains, rising by 2.67%. The German DAX rose 0.95% at 9:03 am CET, with Infineon being the best performer at the open, up 2.23%.
The euro and the British pound were down by 0.06% and 0.17% against the dollar at 8:58 am CET, selling for $1.08573 and $1.27036 simultaneously.
