Labour Party leader Kier Starmer vowed on Sunday to work with the European Union on renegotiating parts of the United Kingdom's Brexit agreement if he becomes prime minister after the next general election. He told the Financial Times that the deal, struck under Boris Johnson's leadership, is "far too thin" and argued that "almost everyone recognizes" that it is "not good."
"I think there’s more that can be achieved across the board," he said, including a "closer trading relationship," as well as tighter cooperation on security, innovation and research. However, he repeated that he will not push for the UK to rejoin the EU, or even the customs union or the single market. The Brexit deal is up for review in 2025, and the UK general election deadline is January 28, 2025.
