The United States granted an amount of $1.25 billion to Ukraine through the World Bank's PEACE project, which raises and distributes funds that are used for other purposes than security and defense, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the ministry, these resources mainly serve to offset state budget expenses, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and will be used to pay pensions and salaries of sanitary workers and teachers, among other things.
"Since the start of the full-scale war, the State Budget of Ukraine has already received $21.7 billion in grants from the United States. Financial assistance from the United States is provided on a non-refundable basis, which allows not to increase the debt burden on the state budget. I am grateful to the US Government for its solidarity and large-scale support," Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko stated.
