United States President Joe Biden joined United Auto Workers (UAW) union members in walking the picket line in Michigan on Tuesday, with the goal of expressing solidarity with those on strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis.
Addressing the crowd gathered in Michigan, Biden said that the striking workers deserved a "significant raise," adding that they "saved the automobile industry back in 2008 and before." ""CEOs try to justify a system where they take all the profit and workers are left to fight for the scraps and live paycheck to paycheck," UAW President Shawn Fain stressed during his speech, highlighting that the workers "do the heavy lifting" and "the real work" while comapanies' executives "sit in their office."
"Our president has chosen to stand up for economic and social justice," Fain noted.
