The German Interior Ministry said on Monday that Israeli citizens presently residing or temporarily staying in Germany can continue their stay until April 26 without the need to apply for a residence permit or extend their visa-free period.
"The barbaric terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7th shocked us deeply. We are not leaving the people of Israel alone - and we also want to support those who, in the face of Hamas' terror, are staying with friends and families for a while living in Germany," Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said.
Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Berlin has shown strong support for Israel, with both German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visiting the state to underline the country's historic obligation to maintain the security of Israel. Last September, Israel and Germany signed a €4 billion defense system agreement.
