At the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum, Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Energy (Petroleum Division), Ali Pervaiz Malik, expressed his deep gratitude to Azerbaijan for its assistance and support in the process of localizing gas resources in Pakistan.
According to Malik, in recent years, a substantial portion of Pakistan’s gas supplies has been secured through international partnerships with friendly countries. “Currently, we have three to four international contracts in place,” he stated.
The minister emphasized that rising global Brent oil prices and pressure on the national currency have led to a slowdown in domestic demand. “We are currently focused on fulfilling the agreements that have already been signed before entering into any new ones,” he noted. “At the same time, we are making active efforts to stimulate domestic exploration and production.”
Malik particularly highlighted Azerbaijan’s valuable role in this process. “I want to thank the Government of Azerbaijan and all our partners for their continued support in our gas localization strategy. Their contributions are crucial in helping us manage our energy sector more effectively.”
He also pointed out that the electricity sector remains the largest consumer of gas in Pakistan’s energy system. “This is why I have consistently emphasized the importance of a coordinated energy policy. In addition, the household sector is another key consumer, with over 150,000 kilometers of gas pipeline infrastructure supplying millions of homes with affordable energy.”
To address long-term sustainability, the minister announced that Pakistan is working to implement energy efficiency standards for household appliances to improve conservation and reduce consumption.
