The Houthis from Yemen’s Ansar Allah rebel movement have claimed responsibility for a missile strike targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, according to a statement by the movement’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree. The announcement was broadcast on the Houthi-controlled Al Masirah television channel and reported via TASS.
"The missile forces conducted a military operation and delivered a strike on Lod Airport, known as Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, in the occupied Jaffa neighborhood using a hypersonic ballistic missile," Saree said.
According to the spokesperson, the strike prompted the temporary suspension of operations at the airport.
Earlier in the day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported intercepting a missile launched from Yemen. However, the Houthis assert that the missile reached its target, marking what they claim to be the first use of a hypersonic ballistic missile in the conflict.
This escalation underscores the growing regional tensions and the expanding reach of the Houthi military campaign, which has increasingly targeted locations far beyond Yemen’s borders.
