The Islamabad High Court has agreed to hear the appeal of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of the opposition Justice Movement (JM) party Imran Khan against his conviction on charges of violating the state secrets law, Geo TV said, Ednews informs via TASS.
The appeal hearing is scheduled for March 18.
Previously, the court stated that Khan did not have the right to appeal his sentence in this high-profile case.
On January 30, in a closed trial, Khan, along with former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating Articles 5 and 9 of the State Secrets Law. In another court verdict, Khan and his wife were sentenced to 14 years in prison for corruption and their sale of gifts worth more than $500,000 that were owned by the state and received by Khan during his tenure as head of government.
Khan headed the Cabinet of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. The former head of the Pakistani government was removed from office on April 10, 2022, as a result of a vote of no confidence passed against him.
