It should be recalled that in September 2022, Vardanyan renounced his Russian citizenship and announced that he was moving to Karabakh. He became the "Minister of State" on November 4, 2022. On February 23, 2023, he was released from this job under the pressure of Azerbaijan. However, he remained in Karabakh and continued his separatist activities.
8 days after the anti-terrorist operation held on September 19, he was caught and arrested by the State Security Service in Lachin district while trying to escape from Karabakh.
He faces up to 14 years in prison.
