Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed victory for a third straight term in a message on social media platform X, Ednews reports.
"People have placed their faith in NDA [BJP-led National Democratic Alliance] , for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India's history. I bow to the Janata Janardan for this affection and assure them that we will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people," Modi wrote.
However, earlier surveys indicated that Modi's Indian People's Party (BJP), faced challenges in securing a majority of seats in the national election. If he doesn't, he will have to rely on allies to form a government. In the initial polls, the BJP was projected to win more than 400 seats in parliament, a significant increase from their 2019 tally of around 350 seats.
