Roberta Metsola was re-elected president of the European Parliament on Tuesday and will serve in the role for another two and a half years. She received votes from 562 out of 720 members of the newly elected European Parliament.
The Maltese politician first became acting president of the European Parliament following the death of David Sassoli on January 11, 2022, and was elected for her first two-and-a-half-year term a week later.
Following Metsola's re-election today, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated her, saying it was "fully deserved."
