British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced on Thursday plans to hold another emergency COBRA (Cabinet Office Briefing Room A) meeting with senior police leaders this afternoon while stressing the importance of maintaining law and order amid the protests in the country.
During a visit to a mosque in Solihull, he said it is "important we don’t let up" following the absence of mass protests on Wednesday. The prime minister stressed the need to "reflect on last night" and organize strategies to control crowds "for the coming days," as more demonstrations are expected to happen soon.
Starmer's remarks came after Judge Andrew Menary KC sentenced John O'Malley, 43, and William Morgan, 69, each to 32 months in prison for violent disorder. Both were heavily involved in the riots, with Morgan also guilty of possessing an offensive weapon.
