Last night, the 46th and current president of the United States, Joseph Biden, officially announced his withdrawal from the presidential race. However, according to many, this was an expected step. Last week - as issues such as the assassination attempt against Trump, Biden's defeat in the debate, and the fact that he contracted the COVID-19 disease emerged, the media began to spread headlines that his family would ask Biden to withdraw from the candidacy. But the question on everyone's mind here is who is the next Democratic candidate? It will most likely be Vice President Kamal Harris. But will she be able to overcome Trump's reputation and become a new breath of fresh air for the Democrats?
Peter Marko Tase a political scientist and International affairs Scholar with a focus on US Foreign Policy and US national security matters shared his comprehensive insights on Ednews.
"Kamala Harris as the upcoming presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, endorsed by outgoing president Joseph R. Biden, is expected to lose the November 2024 presidential elections however she will continue to receive campaign funding from Armenian Diáspora groups in California and cause even more division inside the Democratic Party. Only Michael Pence has been the worst Vice President In America’s history, than Kamala Harris. President Trump is the projected winner of the upcoming November 5, 2024 presidential elections. Kamala Harris is not a good leader and has no ability to rally the international community in the fight against illegal immigration, and in the war against terrorism, let alone encourage NATO and handle the Chinese expansion in South America."
Brendan Fraser, a German-based political analyst living in the United States, believes that Biden's withdrawal from the nomination has given the Democrats a second chance:
"Given that Vice President Kamala Harris immediately took over the "succession" of the presidency upon Biden's withdrawal, we can assume that this was planned. Harris indeed came to the vice presidency with very high expectations. She was indeed the first Jamaican and an Indian-origin woman to win one of the ruling positions in the country. But she fails to meet the expectations. The politicians who hold the position of vice president do not always come to the fore with their activities in this position In other words, they can replace the country's president in some kind of emergency. But I think that if we compare with Biden, who is already showing his age, we can see another candidate from the Democrats, but maybe against the division such a step should not be taken. If, as Trump has done, Harris can rally many prominent Democrats around him, including Obama and his wife, and voice their support, we could see a very interesting and competitive election. So, from this point of view, the Democrats still have a second chance."
