With the initiative and support of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, as well as a corresponding decision by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the 100th anniversary of the death of Ashig Alasgar has been included in UNESCO’s program of commemorations for the years 2026–2027.
According to “EDnews,” this was stated by Secretary-General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, Seymur Fataliyev, during his speech at the conference titled “Ancient Texts and Classical Sources Expose Armenian Falsifications and Fabrications” or Ethno-Geographic Armenian Deceit and Intrigues Regarding Azerbaijani Territories.
He noted that the issue was discussed and approved during the 221st session of UNESCO’s Executive Board held in April 2025, describing it as a significant achievement:
“I am confident that, alongside state institutions, representatives of the Western Azerbaijan Community will also participate in the process of commemorating the 100th anniversary of Ashig Alasgar at the UNESCO level in 2026, contributing meaningfully to the promotion of our nation’s rich cultural heritage to the international community.”
