Azerbaijan’s 2019 Efficiency Index of Rail Service equals 70.8, Eurasia Diary reports citing APA-Economics referring to the Global Competitiveness Report 2019 published by World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to the report, Azerbaijan’s index exceeds indicators of the developed countries like Germany (65.3), Estonia, the U.S. (69.2), Sweden (49.3), Norway (57.6) etc. It is noteworthy that Japan has the highest Efficiency Index of Rail Service which amounts to 96.
It should be noted that an efficiency index is measured broadly combining categories such as frequency, punctuality, speed and price. The density of rail networks and overall levels of ridership do not appear to be reflected in the efficiency ratings.
