Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev has paid a visit to Iraq.
According to “EDnews,” within the framework of the visit, the second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Iraq was held in Baghdad. The consultations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev and Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations, Mohammad Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum.
During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on the current state and future prospects of bilateral political, economic, trade, energy, humanitarian, and inter-parliamentary relations. They also discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in multilateral formats, particularly within international organizations such as the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The sides touched upon cooperation within the framework of the UN Climate Change Conference.
The Iraqi side was informed about the post-conflict situation and peace process, including reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, mine clearance operations, and the return of Azerbaijani citizens to their native lands.
The sides also held discussions on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Rafiyev met with Iraq’s Minister of Communications, Co-Chair of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation from the Iraqi side, Ms. Hayam Al-Yasiri. The importance of the Commission’s role in advancing economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries was highlighted, and confidence was expressed that the next meeting of the Commission, scheduled to be held in Baku, will give new momentum to bilateral relations.
