Today marks the official visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Pezeshkian, to Azerbaijan. I can confidently say the visit has been very successful. EDnews note that the agreements reached and the documents signed confirm once again the friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Iran. The Joint Declaration signed by both presidents is particularly noteworthy a serious document that outlines the path for our future cooperation.
We wish to see similar results in our trade and economic cooperation. Unfortunately, that has not been the case so far. However, I am confident that following this visit and the outcomes of the business forum, we will see significant progress in trade, investments, and other related areas. I’m pleased that a large business delegation has accompanied the respected President over 120 Iranian businesspeople.
I believe that next time we hold a business forum, this hall will be fully packed. Even now, more than 400 participants are attending, indicating strong mutual interest. Naturally, when political relations are strong, business communities align their activities accordingly. We need to take concrete steps to increase trade turnover. Current figures show that our trade volume does not even reach one billion dollars, which is unsatisfactory. Therefore, increasing trade, mutual investments, and creating joint ventures will be commendable efforts.
The Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Iran has a leading role in this. I highly value the commission’s work. Its co-chairs and members meet regularly, and each meeting carries great importance.
Azerbaijan and Iran are also involved in major international projects, such as the North-South Transport Corridor. We want this corridor to not only facilitate transit but also encourage the development of new businesses and industrial enterprises along its route within both Azerbaijan and Iran. There is great potential, given the strong economies and active entrepreneurial sectors of both countries. It is essential to bring businesspeople together, as we are doing today, and present them with concrete projects.
This business forum, especially with both presidents participating after a long break, is a very serious step. We expect tangible results from our business communities.
