The normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia could pave the way for lasting peace in the South Caucasus, European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said Monday at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan, EDnews reports.
Kallas stressed that the EU welcomes the progress made towards the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan.
"Today, we also discussed Armenia-Azerbaijan relations with Minister Mirzoyan. The EU continues to strongly support the normalization of relations between the two countries on the basis of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders. There is no alternative to these three principles. We are pleased and encouraged by the progress made towards the normalization of bilateral relations, as improved relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan can pave the way for lasting peace in the region," Kallas said.
