The violence and brutality committed by Russian law enforcement against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg on June 27 is unacceptable, Zaur Shukurov, a member of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, said in his statement. EDnews reports, citing Report.az.
According to Shukurov, the recent events in Russia are clear examples of chauvinism, discrimination and national segregation in this country:
"In general, the ruthless behavior of Russian law enforcement agencies once again proves that the processes are being managed purposefully. According to reports, currently in Russia, there is a clear tendency to take migrants to the conflict zone through various means of pressure, blackmail and coercion in order to participate in the war against Ukraine. Thus, migrants are threatened with drugs, crimes they did not commit, family members and relatives, and, faced with coercion, are forced to agree to the demands and conditions of Russian law enforcement agencies."
The MP said that the events are not limited to Yekaterinburg alone, but cover all regions of Russia:
"Some officials and the media are even more zealous in this regard, trying to emphasize the necessity of the processes and trying to create the myth that such measures are of national importance. The recent confessions of the Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, regarding the involvement of migrants in the war and the statistics he voiced are based on these facts. The Azerbaijani state and people have not forgotten the shooting down of a civilian plane belonging to AZAL in Russian skies last december, and the inaction of the Russian side in this incident, the fact that the persons suspected of committing this act that caused the loss of innocent lives have still not been brought to criminal responsibility and the absence of an acceptable apology are unacceptable."
Shukurov emphasized that Azerbaijan will take appropriate steps to investigate this crime at the international legal level and achieve a fair resolution of the issue, punishment of the perpetrators, and payment of appropriate compensation:
"In May 2025, a member of the Milli Majlis, who was invited to an event in Astrakhan, was not allowed into Russian territory. At the same time, some time ago, during public hearings organized by the temporary commission of the Milli Majlis on Countering Foreign Interventions and Hybrid Threats, information was voiced about a cyberattack against Azerbaijani information resources from Russian territory. All these facts, as well as the open anti-Azerbaijani statements of elements close to the Kremlin, such as Solovyov, clearly indicate that the processes are being controlled. All this gives reason to say that the Russian side does not seem interested in the normal development of relations with Azerbaijan, and the tension observed in bilateral relations stems precisely from the steps taken by Russia."
On the morning of June 27, the Russian Federal Security Service raided houses where Azerbaijanis lived in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two Azerbaijanis were killed and several others were detained. The murdered Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the well-known journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also released a statement on June 28 regarding the attacks on Azerbaijanis by the Russian Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg.
In addition, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident in Yekaterinburg, and a strong protest was expressed.
