Using United Nations Security Council to discuss Hong Kong means the US is settling a score with China, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing on Thursday, EDNews.net reports citing TASS.
"Such actions undermine China’s sovereignty, they are a blatant violation of the basic norms of international law stipulated within the UN Charter. We think that they are solely dictated by the [US] wish to settle the score with its foreign policy opponent," she said.
The diplomat added that to include issues out of the UN mandate is undermining the institution.
Russia considers the situation in Hong Kong as the domestic affair of China and condemns foreign actors on meddling with it.
Recently, China adopts a national security bill on the territory of Hong Kong that China could help to maintain order.
