President Ilham Aliyev: We are closer than ever to peace with Armenia - UPDATED

In his speech at the opening of the 11th Global Baku Forum held in Baku, Aliyev talked about the process leading up to the 2nd Karabakh War, the years of occupation of Azerbaijani lands, and the failure of the negotiation process that lasted for years, Ednews reports.

Emphasizing that Armenia has been armed for years, Aliyev said, "We seized military vehicles, weapons and ammunition worth approximately 1 billion dollars in the anti-terrorist operation. The value of the war spoils we seized in the 2nd Karabakh War was 5 billion dollars. All these weapons were given to Armenia free of charge." was given." he said.

Underlining that Azerbaijan is ready to continue the peace process, Aliyev said, "We have achieved historical justice. Now it is time to end hostility in the region." said.

"All France's efforts were in vain"

Referring to France's anti-Azerbaijan attitude, Aliyev said, "France tried hard to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan. We had not done anything against international law and all France's efforts were in vain." he said.

Reminding that Azerbaijan achieved sovereignty over all its lands with the 2nd Karabakh War and the anti-terrorist operation in September 2023, Aliyev said, "Today, we are closer to peace with Armenia than ever before. The South Caucasus has never been this close to peace. This is the 2nd Karabakh War. It happened thanks to him." he said.

Pointing out the attack on the statue of the famous Azerbaijani poet Natavan in Evian-les-Bains, France, and showing photographs of the statue, Aliyev said, "The nose of the statue was broken, paint was thrown on it. Despite all our requests, they did not repair the statue. After long efforts, they took that monument to the Azerbaijan Cultural Center." What did we place?" he said.

In addition to Aliyev, Albanian President Bayram Begay, Serbian Member of the Presidential Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zeljka Cvijanovic, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, United Nations High Representative of the Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Angel attended the opening of the forum organized by Nizami Ganjavi International Center. At the forum titled "Reconstructing the Shattered World", attended by Binali Yıldırım, former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and one of the Prime Ministers and Chairman of the Aksakals Council of the Organization of Turkish States, approximately 68 people from 68 countries, including former heads of state and government, Nobel Prize winners, international organizations and civil society representatives, participated. 400 participants took part.
