The West is arming Armenia to restore its influence in the region, said an article published by Anadolu, Ednews informs.
It was noted that Azerbaijan fully restored its territorial integrity as a result of the Second Karabakh War and the anti-terrorist operation in September 2023: "Nikol Pashinyan's government in Armenia accepted the defeat and the new realities in the region. After that, a historic opportunity arose for the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus. Despite the positive positions of Baku and Yerevan regarding the new discussions, foreign actors influence the process. As a result, new problems emerge."
It adds that France's support for Armenia created tension in relations with Azerbaijan: "The meeting held on April 5 with the participation of the United States, the European Union, and Armenia increased doubts about the goals of the West in the region. Baku objected to this meeting. Ankara called on third powers to refrain from harming the development of processes."
According to the article, the Armenian government is moving away from Russia, which has been an outpost for many years, in parallel with its approach to the West: "Pashinyan wants to end Yerevan's dependence on Moscow. Since September 2020, the EU has aided Armenia in the amount of $38 million, and the United States in the amount of $31 million. Both parties have promised to continue this support."
