The International Court of Justice in The Hague is currently hearing a case filed by Azerbaijan against Armenia. The proceedings focus on preliminary objections raised by Azerbaijan in response to an appeal by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) (Armenia v. Azerbaijan).
During yesterday's public hearings, Armenia provided its response to Azerbaijan's claims, reiterating baseless accusations against Azerbaijan.
Sahib Mammadov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the League for the Protection of Citizens' Labor Rights, weighed in on the agenda, denouncing Armenia as the "most racist and monetarist state in the world." Mammadov argued that Armenia's allegations of racial discrimination against Azerbaijan are unfounded, citing historical events of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Armenia against Azerbaijan.
Mammadov emphasized that both Armenia and Azerbaijan are signatories to the international convention on the abolition of racial electoral systems. He criticized Armenia's failure to engage in dialogue with Azerbaijan before filing the lawsuit, stating that the claim does not align with the International Court of Justice's procedures.
Addressing accusations of ethnic cleansing and destruction of Armenian cultural heritage, Mammadov countered that Azerbaijan had taken measures to ensure the rights of Armenians in territories under its control. He claimed that Armenians voluntarily relocated due to their lack of historical ties to those areas and refuted allegations of forced displacement.
Mammadov concluded by accusing Armenia of implementing a racist policy against Azerbaijanis and violating international conventions. He called for a fair investigation to reveal the truth behind Armenia's claims and reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to upholding human rights and international law.
