The US State Department has commented on the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department Vedant Patel said.
He emphasized that the United States was not a party to the trilateral agreement concluded in 2020, which put an end to the fighting in Karabakh and led to the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces in the region: "Frankly, we’ve not seen anything to indicate that Russia’s military was contributing to a more peaceful and stable South Caucasus region."
"Nevertheless, we strongly support Armenia and Azerbaijan's ongoing and earnest efforts to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace, and we stand ready to continue our assistance to facilitate this process," the State Department official stated.
