As reported, the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) has launched a new project titled "Mine-Free World Initiative - as the 18th Sustainable Development Goal of the UN". The main idea of the new project is to support President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev's initiative to integrate the mine problem into the UN's 18th Sustainable Development Goals, and to combat the humanitarian impact of mines on a global scale. It also aims to increase global awareness of the ongoing development limitations caused by the mine problem. By integrating the mine issue into SDGs, the project aims to support international efforts for sustainable development, peace, security, and a mine-free world.
These words were stated by the President of IEPF, Umud Mirzayev, in his statement to Ednews. According to him, within the framework of the project, parallel sessions, round tables, live and online meetings will be organized globally to ensure continuous development towards a mine-free world. Campaigns will also be conducted via social media, and educational videos and printed materials will be prepared for public awareness. The project will involve regular meetings and events with mine victims, their family members, ANAMA officials, deminers, and other relevant stakeholders.
"As part of the project, it is planned to hold a parallel session at the United Nations Office in Geneva in October-November. The main purpose of this event is to bring together professional experts from various regions of the world and representatives from countries affected by the mine problem to unite international organizations towards resolving the issue. The United Nations Office in Geneva, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Mine Action, the Permanent Mission of the United Nations and other international organizations will participate."
It should be noted that the aforementioned project is being implemented by the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) within the framework of a major grant competition announced by the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the year 2024.
