The French Interior Ministry fears mass unrest after the end of the second round of early parliamentary elections, which could last several days, said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, Gerald Darmanin, on the air of the BFMTV channel, Ednews informs referring to TASS.

“There is every reason to believe that the situation could get out of control on Sunday. First of all, we are talking about the rally at 20:00 in front of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament), which I demanded to ban. There is a possibility that ultra-left activists will organize riots. In addition, outbreaks of violence are possible in other cities, in particular in Lyon, Rennes and Nantes, where far-right and far-left activists are concentrated,” he noted.

In this regard, the minister ordered the deployment of 30,000 police officers and gendarmes to maintain order on the streets of French cities, of which 5,000 will be on duty in Paris and its suburbs.

He noted that the most intense period will be immediately after the end of voting on the night from Sunday to Monday. “But if we have to hold out for 2-3 days, we will hold out for 2-3 days,” he added.
