Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy, during the European Political Community summit in the historic town of Woodstock, United Kingdom.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry told Report that the sides discussed various aspects and future prospects of strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, issues of mutual interest on the regional and international agenda, as well as the current state of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.

They underlined the mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in all areas, especially in energy, education, and humanitarian relations, and Azerbaijan's special importance as a significant trade partner. The sides noted that UK companies are successfully operating in both the oil and non-oil sectors of Azerbaijan's economy, and emphasized the ample opportunities for further deepening economic cooperation.

Additionally, the two officials reviewed cooperation issues in the field of green energy between the two countries and appreciated immense prospects for cooperation with Azerbaijan in this area. They noted that Azerbaijan's presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) could contribute to strengthening the climate action in the existing cooperation agenda.

Considering the mine threat faced by the sides noted the importance of support for Azerbaijan in the field of humanitarian demining.

During the meeting, the parties stated that the existing dialogue, mutual visits and contacts, including political consultations between the two countries, make an important contribution to the development of relations.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information about the current situation in the region, including steps taken by Azerbaijan regarding the peace process, Azerbaijan's position on normalizing relations with Armenia, and restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories. He noted that despite significant progress on the text of the peace agreement in negotiations with Armenia, the ongoing claims against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty in Armenia's constitution and legislative acts are the main obstacle in the peace process.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked UK for the efforts made to organize a meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia within the framework of the European Political Community summit at the initiative and with the participation of the UK Prime Minister. He noted that the failure of this meeting due to Armenia's refusal does not contribute to the peace process.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
