In a recent statement to Ednews, Member of Parliament Konul Nurullayeva voiced strong concerns about the increasing militarization of Armenia, accusing the United States and the European Union of attempting to destabilize the South Caucasus. Nurullayeva highlighted recent U.S.-Armenia military exercises and secret transfers of weapons from the U.S. to Armenia as confirmation of what official Baku has long suspected.
"During the meeting on April 5, Armenia, the EU, and the U.S. persistently denied that there was a secret understanding of military cooperation in the agreement. However, today's reality – the U.S.-Armenia military exercises and the secret transfer of weapons from the USA to Armenia – confirms that official Baku was right. The goal is clear – an attempt to change the military balance by strengthening Armenia militarily and to divide the South Caucasus with a new conflict," Nurullayeva stated.
She further criticized the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, accusing it of misleading the public about the nature of recent military activities. "The U.S. Embassy in Armenia talked about a completely different topic under the name of 'denial.' The Embassy commented on the 'exercises,' but it was about the secret transportation of weapons and ammunition to Armenia on two planes. This shows once again that the U.S. Embassy has nothing to say in the face of the current facts. They could not call it a lie or misinformation," she added.
Nurullayeva also turned her attention to the European Union, condemning its financial support for Armenia's military efforts. "The European Union has allocated 10 million euros through the European Peace Facility, which encourages the continuation of Armenia's militarization policy. This assistance also encourages the Armenian authorities and society to continue revanchist policies. Of course, after this support, Armenia will not give up its territorial claims against Azerbaijan," she warned.
She also raised concerns about Armenia's ongoing purchase of lethal weapons from France and India and the increased activity of former Karabakh separatists. "Intensive activity of former Karabakh separatists is observed in Armenia. The point is that the 'artsakh' representative office is still operating. All this confirms that the Armenian authorities have not abandoned revanchist ideas. At the same time, Armenia does not want to change its constitution, that is, it continues its territorial claims against Azerbaijan," she asserted.
Nurullayeva concluded by warning of the potential consequences of Armenia's actions. "It is no coincidence that Armenia regularly commits provocations on the border by using heavy weapons and quadcopters. Of course, these provocations will cost Armenia dearly. Armenia and its patrons should refrain from their intentions to create a new hotbed of war in the South Caucasus region. Suppose such acts of provocation against our country are not stopped. In that case, necessary retaliatory measures will be taken for self-defense using all means in the arsenal of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. All responsibility for escalating the situation in the region will fall on the military and political leadership of Armenia and its patrons," she stated.
