The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Muxtar Babayev, participated in the Commonwealth of Nations conference via video link as the president of COP29. The conference discussed the climate challenges faced by developing small island countries.

“The COP29 Presidency is working to ensure that the climate discussions of developing small island states (SIDS) are at the center of the dialogue with the Union countries. Speaking at the meeting of heads of government of the Union countries, M. Babayev confirmed Azerbaijan's interest in the participation of SIDS in COP29. These initiatives reflect the commitment of the COP29 Presidency to ensure that the voices of countries most affected by climate change are heard,” the statement noted.
