Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Baku opened a new page in bilateral relations, and these relations are important in terms of regional security.
This was stated by the deputy of the Milli Majlis, Konul Nurullayeva, in her statement to EDnews.
According to her, the development of bilateral relations is important in terms of regional security. The deputy noted that despite the explosion at the Shahid Rajai port in Bandar Abbas, the visit was not postponed, and this is one of the important points:
"This showed that Tehran is interested in the start of a high-level dialogue with Baku as soon as possible. The statements made by the heads of state and the signed documents give reason to say that a new stage has already begun in bilateral relations. Despite the disagreements that have arisen so far, close neighborliness, common historical and cultural heritage have always existed in Iranian-Azerbaijani relations."
K. Nurullayeva pointed out that it was not a coincidence that Iran was also involved in the 3+3 format after the 44-day war:
"In fact, Azerbaijan has been interested in developing relations with all its neighbors, including Iran, and this policy continues today. It was not a coincidence that Iran was also involved in the 3+3 format, which was created at the initiative of Azerbaijan after the 44-day war. At the same time, the Azerbaijan-Iran-Turkey, Azerbaijan-Russia-Iran trilateral cooperation formats are also being continued, and the initiator of this is President Ilham Aliyev."
He also emphasized once again that the discussion of cooperation in the field of transport at the Summits of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia held in different years had a positive impact on the development of relations between the states of the region
One of the main issues discussed by the heads of state during the visit was the development of cooperation in the field of transport. Both countries are closely cooperating on the North-South transport corridor. Our head of state stated that we want this to be not only a transport corridor, but also to create opportunities for opening new businesses and establishing industrial enterprises along the road in Azerbaijan and Iran. All opportunities exist for the implementation of the issue in question. The deputy believes that the Astara-Astara and Astara-Rasht railway projects will strengthen trade relations between Iran and Azerbaijan:
"The Araz corridor, which connects the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf, is also a project that connects the main part of Azerbaijan through Nakhchivan and Iran. The Astara-Astara and Astara-Rasht railway projects will strengthen trade relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. In other words, Azerbaijan's modernization of its railway infrastructure also gives impetus to the development of relations between the states of the region."
